This is my third year entering the yearly print competition during the Professional Photographers of Nebraska Conference. This year I had the humbling experience of not having any above an 80-the merit category score. Two years ago, I would have been devastated and sworn off ever taking another photo, but with growth has come wisdom.
This year, I have really been working on my in-studio lighting, and I decided to enter two of these images into competition. I didn't do it for the merit but instead for the feedback on my skill and craft. I received information on how to refine my photos I entered. My favorite is one of my father that I plan to still refine and reenter into competition, so I can't share that one, but my other entry was of my own girls-it scored a 79 (which is considered in the above average category).
Another entry that scored a 78 is a 2022 favorite image that I photographed during an engagement session. I'm excited to receive my critiques on how I can continue to improve on my images and offer even better for you, my customers.
In order to be a photographer, I must continue to seek feedback and education, and I have been focused on those two things the past couple of years. I'm excited to see what 2023 has in store for me in terms of learning.
